This October 2023: Navigating Towards Just and Social Urban Transformation – Post UNHA II Reflection Workshop <\/strong>Thursday 26 October and Friday 27 October 2023<\/p>\n

The Civil Society Urban Development Platform<\/a> (CSUDP), Friedrich Ebert Stiftung<\/a> (FES Kenya Office), UN-HABITAT and TRIALOG e.V.<\/a> are in close collaboration to prepare for a joint 2023\/2024 conference<\/strong>. For this, the organisers want to use stakeholder engagement to engage in a fact- and knowledge-based discourse on the UNHA-II resolutions. Specifically, the exchange is dedicated to the topic of Just and Social Urban Transformation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This will take place in a two-part format. There will first be a preparatory online event “Navigating Towards Just and Social Urban Transformation – Post UNHA II Reflection Workshop<\/a>“<\/strong> in October 2023.<\/p>\n

The results of this workshop will then feed into the preparation of the joint Conference 2023\/24<\/strong> next spring.<\/p>\n

What is the 2023 Workshop about?<\/strong>
\nThe 2023 workshop is linked to this year’s UN Habitat Assembly. This aimed to review key trends related to human settlements and urbanization and to ensure the active participation of local authorities and other stakeholders in the Assembly, its subsidiary bodies and intersessional meetings. The Ministerial Declaration of the 1st UNHA made an important statement about the need to engage stakeholders in participatory and inclusive governance to accelerate the implementation of the NUA. This was reinforced by the adoption of UN-Habitat’s Stakeholder Engagement Policy at the 2nd UNHA to strengthen the framework for stakeholder engagement.<\/p>\n

The objective of the workshop is to provide a forum for critical reflection on the UNHA II resolutions to enhance opportunities for equitable and social transformation of cities. In this way, the workshop aims to bridge the gap between the outcomes of UNHA II and the conference planned for the first quarter of 2024. It will address relevant insights and innovations that have the potential to accelerate the implementation of UNHA II resolutions.<\/p>\n

When will the Workshop take place?<\/strong>
\nThe workshop is planned as an online event<\/strong><\/a> and will take place on
\nThursday, October 26, 2023 \u00a0(14:00 \u2013 18:00h EAT, 13:00 \u2013 17:00h CET), and
\nFriday, October 27, 2023 (10:00 \u2013 14:00h EAT, 09:00 – 13:00h CET).<\/p>\n

Conference 2024<\/strong>
\nFollowing the workshop, the results of the online discussion will be taken up to develop a hybrid conference format to be held in Kenya in spring 2024<\/strong>. An open call for papers will be issued towards the end of 2023. We will announce the exact date in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

TRIALOG Issue<\/strong>
\nIt is planned that the results of the workshop and conference will serve for a special TRIALOG Journal issue.<\/p>\n
